Promise Places

"Building Independence for the Mentally Disabled"

Letter from the President

July 2012

Dear Supporters,

As summer is here, so ends another fiscal year for Assisi House Inc. It has been an extremely busy and productive year. We began in July, after much Board discussion, by creating and registering a DBA name Promise Places. It was the consensus of the Board and outside marketing consultants that “Assisi House” was a difficult name for pronunciation and retention. It was decided to keep Assisi House as the name for our first build project, and foster the capital campaign under the parent name of Promise Places. The new DBA name will enable us to continue to gain exposure for all aspects of our mission. In doing this we have redesigned the logo and website; and thus have increased our donor database and social media presence.

We met with State and City Officials regarding grant procurement. This has been an ongoing effort that will, hopefully, culminate in September with grant applications. In order to comply with grant requirements and appropriate information needs we hired a part time Executive/Development Director, Carine McCandless and Grant writer, Lynne Carruth.

We have continued with successful fundraising events and have acquired continuing annual commitments from Academy of Rock Music, Forbidden City Restaurant, The Jewish Mother Hilltop and Sonoma Wine Bar and Bistro. Additionally, the Military Aviation Museum will be our annual host for our Signature Event, the Promise Places Plane Pull, with the 2nd Annual to be held on April 27th, 2013. Through these successful events we have established great rapport and relationships with local media. Other upcoming events include the 2nd Annual Corvette Sweepstakes and our 1st Annual Promise Places 5K Race to be held on October 13, 2012 in Fairfax, Virginia.

We have been fortunate to establish community service relations with the Girl Scouts of America, a strategic partnership with the Sheriff’s Department Community Service Program, Heart Havens, Old Dominion’s Internship Program and an ongoing donor relationship with both the Lynnhaven United Methodist Church and KOVAR (Knights of Columbus). We are hopeful that this generous type of relationship will be established with many of our community churches. We deeply appreciate the donations from all supporters over the last year and look forward to their continued patronage.

We continue to work to increase our web based membership drive and educate our community about Promise Places and the mission to “build” independence for the mentally disabled.

Sincerely,

Deni Brown, President ~ Board Of Directors
