At Promise Places, Our Mission is to provide non-denominational, supervised residential facilities, designed to promote the maximum growth for adults with mild to moderate mental disabilities. Our residents will live in a family-oriented environment within a comfortable home setting, each accommodating no more than eight individuals. Each resident is encouraged to lead the most productive and independent lifestyle achievable. They will receive life-skills training and will be assisted in finding appropriate employment based on their abilities.

Right now, as you read this, there are approx. 300 of these citizens – just in Virginia Beach – with nowhere to go. Some do not have families, or their parents have passed away. Our facilities will help fulfill the needs of this very vulnerable population, as well as alleviate the worry of families needing to plan ahead to prepare alternative living arrangements for their loved ones.

These adults are often not eligible for public assistance and the private sector is not meeting the demand for supervised housing. Many people think our tax dollars fully address this issue – they do not. It should alarm you that Virginia ranks 48th out of our 50 states, in providing services for these very special people. They deserve better.

To be proactive, we are committed to educating families of special needs children on how to best plan for their future. But this is not just about people born with disabilities. Accidents & injuries can, in an instant, make this a harsh reality for any of us. We need to educate our community, advocate for this need and put an end to this crisis.
