Deni, her husband and children moved to Virginia Beach in 1992. They immediately became strongly involved with the Oceanfront community and its youth when they purchased 17th Street Surf Shops. While her husband ran the business, Deni taught and later became Assistant Principal at St. Gregory the Great School.
After retiring from teaching Deni continued to work as a volunteer in the Virginia Beach School system. She volunteered in the mentorship program, the partners in education program, SOL tutoring and various other educational programs.
Spending more than half her life as an educator, she realized people with mental challenges often become lost members of our community. She joined the Assisi House Board of Directors in 2008 as the Fundraising Chair, and is now the current Board President. Her leadership skills, educational and business backgrounds and belief in the mission are what enable her to remain passionate about Assisi House.
It is her belief that the strength of the community we live in is measured on how well it provides for its most vulnerable members.
